Seahorses

Seahorses generally spend their lives hooked onto something, eg onto seafans and coral, so you hardly see them swimming freely. They're always swaying with the current, together with their 'host'.

We saw this one on a shore dive at the house reef of Black Sand Dive Retreat.

We saw this on one of our dives in March 2007. Its identity was the subject of a debate between the very experienced diver/resort owner and a very experienced diver-guest. One insisted it was a seahorse, and the other insisted it was a pipefish. We finally asked the guide what it was, and there was much laughter when we heard his answer - a Pipe Seahorse.
