Fish Whose Ugliness Grows on You
Flounders start off with eyes on either side and 'normal' bodies when they're babies, but when they come of age (settle into the sea floor), one of their eyes inexplicably moves across to the other side. Seriously! At the same time, their swim bladders disappear. Quite amazing.
Below: flounders are sometimes barely perceptible because they blend into the sea floor like an old worn rug. I almost stabbed one with my pointer when trying to steady myself to shine my torch on another subject.
